Sam Security

The definition of “duty of care” is “a moral and/or legal obligation to ensure the safety or well-being of others”, and many countries actually have laws in place that can hold companies accountable if something happens to their employees while traveling for business.

Powered by WorldAware intelligence, Sam helps companies fulfil their duty of care by sending relevant security notifications to the travelers and letting them share their location to notify they are safe.

How does it work?

The traveler’s location is determined via GeoGuess, which is a combination of GPS and the locations of the reservations of the traveler itinerary (i.e. hotel address, flight origin/destination...).

To be able to use GPS as a data source, you need to grant permissions to the app first; otherwise we will rely on your itinerary alone. Also, we are not constantly tracking your location: you must open the app to provide us with new location information.

All this combined information allows Sam to decide which alerts are sent to a traveler, based on whether he or she could be potentially affected by the event.

Types of alerts

WorldAware has three types of alerts, two of which are available in Sam:

  • Warnings - Events that require heightened awareness and may impact travel or operations.
  • Critical alerts - Imply that action is required. They address issues that will impact operations or travel.

- Each alert has at least one location associated (sometimes more) with a specific radius, which varies depending on the alert.

- Tapping "More info" will take you to a page with a description of the incident, a map and additional advice. "Share my location" will update your location via Secure. That way, your company or travel manager can know you are safe in the case of an incident.

- For critical alerts, a third action will also be available: "Call emergency number". Selecting that option will display the different  emergency phone numbers available in the location of the event.

- Local emergency number
- 3rd party travel risk management provider or your company's designated emergency assistance number. This can be a provider like World Aware, or any other phone number designated for security and health emergencies in the company.

See instructions on how to set up the 3rd party emergency number

- Security notifications are sent both to the traveler and the travel arranger (if activated). Only the traveler can have a "Share my location" option.

Travellers can deactivate warning type of notifications from the Notification settings of the app.

You can send your location to the Secure dashboard to signal you are fine.

Arrangers will also receive an extra notification asking if they want to get in touch with the traveler; for traveler's, it's the travel consultant contact details.
